Cemetery memorials seem to me, ironically to be the most forgotten places of artwork. I guess the reason is that people don't have time or the motivation to visit cemeteries.

Some of the very old grave markers that date back to the 1800's are so weathered and worn, that the date and names of the desceased are almost completely obliterated. The elements, acid rain, etc., have worn and will continue to wear away those whose loved ones attempted for future generations to remember forever.

From the Cemetery Series... Some of the headstones of this cemetery date back to the 1890's and earlier. This cemetery is in the middle of an unsafe neighborhood and so my fear did not emanate from the spirit world, but rather instead from the real world and and the living.

Logan Square, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is one of the five original public squares designed by Philadelphia founder Willliam Penn in 1682. His reasoning was to keep a green country town feel to city living. In modern times the "square" was turned into a circle for traffic flow. This fountain is in the middle of that "circle". Originally called "Northwest Square," the park had a somewhat gruesome history as a site of public executions and burial plots until the early Nineteenth Century. In 1825, it was renamed Logan Square after Philadelphia statesman James Logan.

Although the bounds of the square—18th Street to the east, 20th Street to the west, Race Street to the south and Vine Street to the north—are still intact, the park today is distinguished by its circle, constructed in the 1930s as a segment of Benjamin Franklin Parkway and centered around picturesque Swann Fountain. Among the sites in its immediate vicinity are the Free Library of Philadelphia, the Academy of Natural Sciences, the Franklin Institute and the Roman Catholic Cathedral-Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul.

Not Waiting for Anyone Anymore

From the things that aren't there anymore series. This was the waiting area of the Corinthian Room Restaurant of the Strawbridge & Clothier restaurant on the 8th floor. Strawbridge was the last of the "old time" department stores in downtown Philadelphia to close its doors forever. Over the years, I spent many times at the restaurant after Christmas shopping or the occasional walk about for Clover day specials. I was very sorry to see it go.
